With the general elections coming up, it’s once again the season for political films. After a film lauding the Congress’ achievement, two films are currently on the floors that are meant to boost the YSR Congress’ prospects.
While director P.C. Reddy is already busy making a film on YSR’s family titled Jagannayakudu, another film, 'Ma Neta Rajanna', is following suit with Vijayachander playing YSR.
The actor, who has carved a niche for himself by playing iconic characters like Jesus Christ and Sai Baba in 'Karunamayudu' and 'Sri Shirdi Sai Baba Mahatyam', says that it’s not easy to portray a real-life character as audiences are always looking for mistakes.
“Earlier I played Tanguturi Prakasam Pantulu and NTR. And now, I’m going to reprise YSR. I hope this will be a remarkable role for me. I believe that YSR is behind me.”
Ma Neta Rajanna’s director K. Srinivas Reddy says, “Vijaya-chander is known for owning a character and evolving into it. He has acted under the direction of veterans like Mani Ratnam. We have roped in make-up man Raj Kamal to take care of the looks of YSR, Raja Reddy (father of YSR) and Vijayamma. Since we’re doing a film based on real-life characters, we’re being very careful.”
Talking about the plot, the director adds, “The film mainly focuses on the life of YSR, from his profession as a doctor to his political foray till his death. Since the film is mainly about YSR, there is less preference given to Jagan, Bharathi and Sharmila.”
Sources say that actor Satya Prakash will play TDP chief N. Chandrababu Naidu and producer Shaik Saida Suraz clarifies, “Yes, we do show political opponents in negative shades but we don’t belittle them either. We’re taking slight cinematic liberties in the film based on real life incidents. We have taken all prior permissions from leaders before going ahead with the project to avoid future complications.”
Asked whether there is a political motive behind making the movie, he says, “We’re doing it out of passion. We’re not biased and I admire most of our leaders.”
Actor Raghunatha Reddy plays Raja Reddy’s role, while Mani Chandana will play Y.S. Vijayamma and yesteryear heroine Geethanjali will play YSR’s mother. If everything goes according to schedule, the film will hit the screens in November.
