Bling parade

Wedding ceremonies of the rich and famous in the city have taken opulence to a new level altogether. What’s eye-popping is not just the decor — that costs nothing less than a few crores of rupees, and yes, this is just for the flowers and lighting effect — but the jewels and saris worn by the guests.
On condition of anonymity, a leading gemologist shares an estimate of the worth of the jewellery worn by the bride and some of our city’s socialite guests at actor Balakrishna’s daughter’s wedding.

“Bride Tejeswini’s ornaments will easily cost above Rs1.24 crore. She wore traditional designs made in a modern way. Her ruby-emerald choker was beautiful but the long necklace didn’t pair well with it. Tejeswini also wore a belt studded with diamonds, rubies and emeralds; six pair of bangles including three kadas; diamond-emerald earrings; and a diamond tikka,” the gemologist notes.
However, from the style point of view, it was the bride’s sister Nara Brahmani who stole the limelight. “Her grand choker worth many lakhs of rupees really complemented her physique. The neck collar is typical of the 1940’s to the 60’s style. Her pink silk sari with kala battu work lent a very glamorous look and enhanced her personality,” she adds.
Actor-producer Lakshmi Manchu, who was also a guest at the high-profile wedding, opted for a “simple look”. But, mind you, the simple neck piece must be worth Rs 30 lakh! Because, that’s how much her three-line Polki kundan necklace and diamond bangle cost.
Most of the ladies wear high end designer Banarasi saris, and their jewels, even if it’s just a neck piece and matching bangles, are very expensive. And, many young girls are seen wearing two neckpieces — a choker on the neck and another longish piece.
For onlookers, it’s truly a bling parade.
