Close on the heels of Kamal Haasan's return to Tollywood, another Tamil superstar is poised to make his T-town debut. It's none other than 'Gajini' and 'Singham' star Suriya, who's teaming up with 'Bbuddah Hoga Terra Baap' director Puri Jagannadh for his forthcoming Telugu-Tamil bilingual. The success of his recent blockbuster 'Singham' ('Yamudu 2') seems to have paved the way for Suriya who has garnered a sizeable fan base amongst the Teluguspeaking audiences.
A highly-placed source reveals, “Puri and Suriya had a meeting in Hyderabad recently when the 'Singham' star had come to promote his film. Suriya was quite impressed with Puri's script narration and has given his nod. It's only a matter of time till they start working together."
The source adds, “Puri had earlier wished to make Businessman in Tamil with Suriya but that did not materialise. Now, Puri has won Suriya over with a fresh story and they will begin working on the film after the director wraps up 'Heart Attack' with Nithin."
The big-ticket entertainer will be produced by K.E. Gnanavel Raja, who also made 'Singham' ('Yamudu 2'). The producer reluctantly admits, “Talks are still going on and it's in the nascent phase. It's too early to reveal details as we are yet to finalise several aspects."
While other Tamil stars like Vikram, Karthi and Vijay have been wooing the Telugu audiences with their dubbed films, it seems that Suriya will pip his peers to the post by being the first one to do a Telugu film. Well, Vikram did act under the direction of Dasari Narayana Rao in 'Bangaru Kutumbam', early on in his career, but the film didn't fare well at the box office. We hope Suriya has better luck than that.
