With his Dasara release 'Doosukeltha' around the corner, actor-producer Vishnu Manchu has his fingers crossed for the film’s success. Interestingly, his colleague Jr NTR also has a film releasing around the same time. “We are good friends no doubt, but with our films releasing on the same day we turn into competitors,” remarks Vishnu.
“It’s a comic entertainer,” he says about his film, adding, “My mom is very religious, so I know her prayers will be answered. We perform the Dasara puja at home in a big way, so it will be double celebration for us.”
The 31-year-old star admits to being petrified of his father. “I remember when he watched the rushes of my debut film Vishnu in 2003, I was scared of his remarks. It was like an exam for me. But his comments boosted my morale as he said, ‘You have done a good job, but your diction needs to improve.’ His comments have helped to improve me at every step.”
Another person Vishnu has a lot of respect for, is superstar Rajinikanth. “My father and he are great pals but Rajini uncle hates my dad’s short temper. My dad is someone who speaks his heart out. He is indeed a misfit in the political scenario simply because he can never be politically correct.”
With his brother Manoj also in films, do they experience any sibling rivalry? “In our next film, my brother Manoj and dad Mohan Babu play characters in conflict with me. I dare not go against Manoj in real life, but you will see the sibling rivalry on screen,” he shares.
What about his sister Laxmi? “She was born to break the rules of our family like going out for late-night parties when we were younger. We call her ‘Rebel Didi’ as she always followed her heart and done what she believed in”.
Sharing a few light moments about his marriage, he says, “I remember when Veronica delivered the twins and I visited her in the hospital, I asked her to give me two more twins. She retorted, ‘I have no more strength for twins again dear, you can look for someone else!’ ”
The couple’s little girls call out ‘Nana’ whenever they watch their father on television. “They always want us to play the songs from my first film and I’m fed up of listening to them.”
