Thespian Akkineni Nageswara Rao has announced openly that he has cancer, a news that shocked many people,understandably. He had convened a press briefing in Annapurna Studios on October 19. During the briefing, ANR announced that he has cancer. The entire family of Akkineni clan attended the press meet.
Speaking on the occasion, ANR says, “Recently I celebrated my 90th birthday. During that function many people around me had complimented saying I would complete 100 years in my life. However, I suffered a little pain in my stomach and consulted a doctor. The doctors conducted several tests on me and announced that there are some cancer related symptoms. However, they assured that me not to fear or worry, because when we are getting older, such cancer cells too grow along with us.
Some 25 years ago, I underwent a heart surgery. Soon after the surgery, they said that only a few live more than 10 to 15 years after that surgery. But I lived for more than 25 years. Still I am active today. It is all because of your affection. Even now, I am not feeling bad for getting cancer. Iam still acting in films. Even now, I am acting in ‘Manam, an upcoming film. I will act till my last breath.
I request my fans not to worry about my cancer. Please don’t come all the way from your place to Hyderabad to visit me. I don’t want the media to spread gossips about my health. That is the reason, I came to the media and openly declared about my health condition. In my 90 years of life, I was in the film industry, for the past 74 years. Staying in film industry for such lengthy time itself is a record. I thank all the fans who are encouraging and showing affection to me. I am sure that I will live for another six years. With your affection, I may even complete my century”.
