AR Rahman was born as Dileep Kumar in Chennai on 6th January in 1966. Being the son of yesteryear music director RK Sekhar, Rahman was fond of music and started playing his father instruments from childhood with his group of band that includes Sivamani.
At the age of 11, Rahman joined in the orchestra of Malayalam composer MK Arjunan. He emerged as an individual composer with Mani Ratnam's Roja in 1992 at the age of 26 and has no turning back. Tamil Nadu Government has honoured Rahman with 'Mozart of the Madras' title for his work in music.
In the past 21 years of his industry career, Rahman has given his tunes for 120+ films including Tamil, Hindi, Malayalam, English and Telugu languages. ARR received his first Oscar Award for Slumdog Millionaire in 2008 and in 2010 for 127 Hours.
Highway, Rajinikanth's Kochadaiyaan, Vikram's Ai, Gautham Menon-STR's film, Kaaviyathalaivaan are the upcoming releases of Rahman in 2014.
