It's a win-win Sankranti deal for Mahesh Babu, Ram Charan

Tollywood heroes Mahesh Babu and Ram Charan Tej have come to an understanding. To avoid box-office clash during Sankranti, they have deemed it wise to adopt a 'live and let live' policy. Two big-budget movies of the actors are ready for release and have to make most of the season to garner revenues. Since Mahesh Babu is a better crowd-puller, the 'Prince' will have his way first. His '1-Nenokkadine' will be released on January 10 and after a gap of two days 'Yavadu', starring Ram Charan Tej, will hit the screens.

According to trade pundits, the films made with a combined budget of over Rs 60 crore, will hit all the 1,400 screens in the state. While Mahesh Babu's film will get the 'first come' advantage of being screened in more number of theatres, Ram Charan Tej's film will also be given theatres at every place.

Billed to be a battle of big stars, it has now become a friendly arrangement so that the producers of both films do not suffer. "During the festival season, film buffs watch more than one movie. Though it might look like a clash between both the stars, it makes a commercial sense for them to release their movies this season. A gap of two days is enough for both movies to reap the benefit," said M Vijayendar Reddy, president of Telangana Film Chamber of Commerce.

However, much to the consternation of the two filmmakers, a small budget film 'Uyyala Jampala', released on December 25 is going great guns. The movie, which was released in a limited number of theatres, is now being shown in more places as it has become a hit. Directed by Virinchi Varma and produced by D Suresh Babu, Akkineni Nagarjuna and Ram Mohan, the film will continue to be screened in a decent number of theatres despite the two big Sankranti releases.

"There is no point in withdrawing a film which is doing well from theatres just for the sake of two big budget films. Many theatre owners have decided to continue screening the movie," an exhibitor said.

For Ram Charan Tej, whose 'Maghadeera' went on to create records, it is now a question of proving his mettle at the box-office again. His last release 'Toofan' (in Telugu) and 'Zanjeer' last year was a huge disappointment. Mahesh Babu's last film, 'Seethamma Vakitlo Sirimalle Chettu' , which he did along with actor Venkatesh, released in January 2013 and his earlier film 'Businessman' was a blockbuster.

According to sources Dil Raju, the producer of 'Yevadu' and the Ram Achanta, Gopichand Achanta and Anil Sunkara, the producers of '1-Nenokkadine' sorted out the matter of the release of their big budget films.
