After almost two decades (Subhasankalpam, 1995), actor Kamal Haasan will be working with leading Telugu director N. Shankar.
Sources say that the Rs 60-crore Telugu-Tamil bilingual film will go on the floors as soon as the actor has approved the script “in principle” and will allot dates after completing Vishwaroopam 2 in September.
“Considering that I had heard that it was difficult to impress Kamal with a story idea, it came as a pleasant surprise when he instantly connected with our plot and offered a few suggestions,” says the director.
Shankar, who has given hits like Jeyam Manadera and Sri Ramulayya, says, “During our meetings, I discovered that he is an encyclopedia of cinema.”
About the film, Shankar only says that it will be a realistic action adventure. “I can’t reveal much about it but it would be a realistic film” says the director, adding, “Kamal hasn’t done such a role before in his illustrious four-decade-old career and we are working on a new look for the multi-faceted star.”
The film is touted to be an urban-centric entertainer with a love story. “We blended a love angle into our script and are looking for a suitable heroine. We will finalise other roles once he allots the dates,” he says.
Kamal Haasan was the Tamil star who gained a fan following in AP in the 80’s and 90’s after hits like Sagara Sangamam and Swathi Muthyam. While he preferred to work with veteran director K. Vishwanath, he has done Telugu films like Indrudu Chandrudu with Suresh Krishna and Oka Radha Iddaru Krishnulu with Kodandarami Reddy.
On reports that Kamal reportedly interferes in the making of a film and curtails the freedom of the director, Shankar says, “That’s not true, he gives complete freedom to a director once the script is done with.”
