It was a totally different scenario at the Expo Center in Sharjah, where the second edition of the two-day South Indian International Movie Awards concluded on September 13. Glamour was certainly the order of the day.
Kollywood's Dhanush walked away with three awards on the first day for his film, '3'. “I wrote five songs in the film, '3'. But 'Kolaveri Di' overshadowed all the others," he said.
In the Best Cinematographer category Sukumar ('Kumki'), K.K. Senthil Kumar ('Eega'), Sameer Thahir ('Diamond Necklace') and Surya Kiran ('Addhoori') bagged the awards in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada respectively.
Sudheer Babu walked away with Best Debutant actor for Telugu. The second day at the event was jam-packed, with audiences present to witness the giving away of the major SIIMA Popular Awards amidst glittering performances by southern divas including Shruti Haasan, Shriya Saran and Hansika paying tribute to biggies like Kamal Haasan, Sridevi, Khushboo and the others.
The show garnered a lot of attention with the likes of Sridevi walking in alongside her husband Boney Kapoor, Shahid Kapoor with his upcoming film's costar, Ileana.
The three hosts, Rana Daggubati, Arya and Shriya, made a dramatic entry and kickstarted the show, performing a bit of the 'Lungi Dance' song to perfection.
Rajendra Prasad, who received the award for the Best Supporting Actor for a Telugu film, remarked that it was the first time he was receiving an award for a supporting role, his previous ones being for a hero.
Sridevi and Boney Kapoor presented the awards for Best Actresses - Popular as well as the Critics' Award. Priya Mani received the award in the Popular Actress category for her Kannada film, 'Charulatha'. While Shruti bagged the Award in Telugu and Nayan the one from the Critics. While the Best Popular Actor Award in Telugu went to Pawan Kalyan who was missing in action, Rana received the Critics' Award.
