Being Alive for 74 years itself is not easy for all souls. And to stay in a film industry for 74 years, as the top most hero is made possible, then it is a milestone record. Not only his record speaks, but also having three generations of people as heroes in a single film, from his family is another record. Yes, he is the veteran actor Akkineni Nageswara Rao, Telugu people are proud to have him in the film industry.
ANR was born at Ramapuram in Nandiwada mandal in Krishna district on September 20, 1924. His first film Dharmapatni was released in 1940. Later, he played a full time hero in Balaraju Katha. Right from Dharmapatni to the upcoming film Manam, no actor has continued a 74-year old career in the film industry.
It is not that easy to enter the film industry and become a hero. No wealth, but self- belief in his debut film, Akkineni Nageswara Rao indeed achieved a remarkable record as an example to other aspiring artists.
He had a discipline which would not allow him to bend towards debilities and stand to interruptions and besides that he worked hard everytime — all this made him as the top hero.
Even his heirs have inherited the top qualities from ANR. While Nagarjuna became a good artist, his brother Venkat excelled in film production. Perhaps,Telugu cinema took a twist in the ‘Siva blockbuster’, released on the banner of Annapurna Studio. Now the Akkineni’s grandsons Sumanth, Naga Chaitanya and Sushant are also heroes and another grandson Akhil too is making his debut as hero very soon.
When Akkineni’s health broke earlier in 1988, he underwent a heart surgery. Then the entire film industry, and the Telugu audiences were in tears. All of them started offering prayers to the gods. They did many fasts and all the fans’ prayers helped Akkineni recover safe. However, he returned to films and did some dancing steps with some young heroines too.
Now, with the announcement of his cancer, the entire Telugu audience across the globe became sad once again and started offering prayers in various temples for his early recovery and wanting him to live for 100 years with good health!
