Pawan Kalyan-starrer 'Attarintiki Daredi' which got huge openings is just about beginning to suffer the Samaikhyandhra heat. On Tuesday, the collections of the film were effected in the Seemandhra region though the going is good for the movie at the box-office in Telangana.
"A 50 per cent drop in the collections was noticed today," said K Sivaprasad, secretary, Vijayawada branch of A P Film Chamber of Commerce. According to Sivaprasad, the movie did well in the last four days because of three reasons. Film exhibitors chose to go ahead with releasing the movie despite the Samaikhyandhra movement on 'sympathy grounds'. The fact that the movie got leaked even before its release generated a lot of sympathy for the movie and exhibitors did not want to cause any more problems to the movie. Another reason is that in the last three months or so there has not been a big hero's release. So 'Attarintiki Daredi', was lapped up.
Sivaprasad said the main reason why the film also did well in the Seemandhra region was that as part of the agitation, all educational institutions were closed from September 22 to September 30. Since the multi-crore movie released on September 27, bang in the middle of the forced holidays, the theatres were full. "It is only today that the movie has seen a dip in the collections. Since the agitation is continuing and educational institutions have opened, one has to wait and see eventually how much revenues the film collects," Sivaprasad said. He, however, added that exhibitors were keeping the theatres open despite the agitation.
While 'Attarintikidi Daredi' has shown the way to the film industry that big films can also be released during the agitation, another big budget movie maker, Dil Raju, has gone ahead and announced the release of 'Ramayya Vastavayya' starring Jr NTR. The film is stated for released on October 10.
Despite the Samaikhyandhra agitation continuing, even 'Ramayya Vastavvay' produced by Dil Raju is expected to reap initial benefits in the Seemandhra region because the movie is being released during the Dasara holidays.
Both Pawan Kalyan, brother of union minister of state for tourism Chiranjeevi, and Jr NTR who is related to TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu had faced the ire of Telangana agitationists in the past. Their films were attacked and the film producers had to suffer several hurdles to release their movies.
For 'Attarintiki Daredi' of Pawan Kalyan, there was no opposition at all in Telangana. It is unlikely that there will be opposition to even Jr NTR's film in Telangana as exhibitors in the region do not want the business to be affected though the actor's father Harikrishna resigned from parliament in support of Samaikhyandhra.
