T-town’s biggest face-off?

From the time the Congress announced a new state, T-town bigwigs seem to have realised the importance of giving more space to the Telangana film fraternity amid reports of a formation of a new Telangana cine trade body.

After almost negligible representation in the recently-held elections of the AP Film Chamber of Commerce, seven to eight people from Telangana will be contesting in the upcoming Telugu Film Producers’ Council elections on August 25.

T-town bosses have offered the post of president to two leading producers — Dil Raju and Ram Mohan Rao — who will be fighting it out with their respective panels. Actor-producer RK is one of the contenders for the general secretary’s post and other members like Allani Sridhar and Sankar Goud have filed nominations for executive membership. RK says, “More space for Telangana people is a welcome decision but candidates are chosen more on merit.”

Even though the elections are touted to being a face-off between filmmakers Dasari Narayan Rao and Dil Raju, the Telangana factor has added zing to the otherwise tame elections. “It’s true that the two presidential candidates, Dil Raj and Ram Mohan, hail from Telangana and few more from Telangana are also in the race since we are looking for a 50-50 representation,” says producer Nattikumar, who admits that AP Film Chamber elections had negligible presence of Telangana members. “It happened due to an oversight.” Andhra-born Nattikumar, who is contesting for the vice-president’s post, adds, “The fate of this election is decided by 800-odd producers of whom nearly 60 per cent are small-budget filmmakers. They will vote for a president who will be accessible to them and help them get good number of theatres, so Ram Mohan has an edge in this regard.

Reportedly, Lakshmi Manchu. has also filed her nomination for executive membership along with Jeevitha.
