Tollywood girl gets 'Fast and Furious'

The seventh installment of the 'Fast and Furious' franchise will have an Indian character in a crucial role. The makers say that the character of Ramsey “is brainy and beautiful with international looks. And she has invented a chip that can immensely increase the speed of a car. This has got Vin Diesel, Paul Walker and others chasing her.”

While Deepika Padukone, Chitrangada Singh and Kangna Ranaut have reportedly auditioned for the role, relatively new actor Rekha Rana is also in the running.

Rekha, who won word-wide acclaim for the Hindi film 'Tara: The Journey of Love and Passion' last year, is in the city for her debut Tollywood film, 'June Pothe July'.

Asked about how the audition for 'Fast and Furious' went, she says, “It was great. I rehearsed a lot. The day I came to know I had to audition for 'Fast and Furious', I dialled up the DVD shops to order the full set. I watched all of it to prepare for the role; sometimes in front of the mirror alone and sometimes with friends,” adds the actor with a strong background in theatre.

About how the auditions came about, she says, “I was in Canada for an awards function in April where 'Tara' was supposed to be screened. I met the film’s casting agent Andrew Webster there. He liked my face. So he got the auditions done in Mumbai last month.”

Though she hasn’t heard back from Andrew, she is hoping for the best. “For the first scene, I was supposed to act as if I was sitting inside a car with Vin Diesel and he was trying to take away the chip from me. In the second, the full gang was chasing me,” recollects Rekha about the auditions.

The actor might have another Hollywood project in the offing. “I received the Best Debutant Actress award at the Jaipur International Film Fest for 'Tara' from Marc Basceht. He has produced the Oscar winning No Man’s Land. We have kept in touch through emails and he has shown interest in working with me,” adds Rekha.

About her Telugu debut, she says, “The film is about three couples. I am playing a struggling actress who is in a relationship with an aspiring actor.”

In the film, Rekha will work with newcomers, right from the director to the actors. But she hopes one day she gets to act with Ram Charan. “He is handsome,” says the actress, who wants to do romantic roles on celluloid and who “just loves Shah Rukh Khan”.

While she has just entered Tollywood, she has already networked with directors like Sekhar Kammula and Srinu Vytla. “I also want to work with Rajamouli. I am a huge fan of 'Eega',” she adds.
