Hollywood is no longer an unattainable dream for Tollywood directors. And showing the way is music composer-turned-filmmaker R.P. Patnaik.
Patnaik’s maiden English movie 'Amy', starring Jessica Digiouanni, Christopher Atkins, Kurt Peterson and Jane Doherty is slated for worldwide release on October 1.
“The idea of making a Hollywood film has been my lifetime dream. Considering that Hollywood’s hard to crack, I treat this film like my visiting card into Hollywood. I’ve big plans lined up after the release of the film and I’m in talks with a big Hollywood production house.
“My next Hollywood film is based on God and faith,” says Patnaik.
Talking about the inception of the film, he says, “I often visit the US and there I encountered a group of Amish people by chance and stayed with them for three days. Despite being rich, they opt to lead the horse-and-buggy way of life. That got my attention. I shot the film in the US as the script demanded it.
“The initial budget of the film was $2 million which shot up later. The heavy graphics cost us more time.”
“It’s a supernatural thriller and the film revolves around Amy who can see possessed souls,” he adds.
When asked whether he would quit Telugu films and shift base to Hollywood, Patnaik says, “I’ll never quit making Telugu films. In a globalised world, there is nothing such as shifting base permanently. But the point in making Hollywood films is to reach to larger section of audience.”
